TGWK’s Review of “Diversion HD” v1.0 (iPad)

Diversion HD is a new side-scrolling running game from developer Ezone. It’s a simple casual game where the goal is to basically get from point A to point B while collecting gems and stars. You’ll need to run, jump, climb, swim, fly, slide, and more to get to the end but don’t think you’ll need to learn any complicated button presses or controller combos. Diversion HD provides a simple one touch method for accomplishing all the movements in this game.

The game consists of numerous courses that you must run through to reach the end. Running is automatic and all you need to worry about is tapping the screen to jump, climb, and any other actions not associated with running. In each course, you try to pick up as many gems as possible as well as the 3 stars scattered throughout each course. The more courses you run through, the more gems you will collect which are then used to unlock new characters.

Graphically, the game isn’t too bad. Everything is rendered in 3D and the game is bright and colorful. Character design is pretty diverse although I don’t think that using different characters would affect the gameplay, it’s purely cosmetic.

My only real complaint about the game is that personally, I find the game to be too easy and the gameplay to be a bit over simplified, but that’s just me. My son however liked the simple controls and was able to immediately jump right into playing the game.

Diversion HD is a 3D take on your basic endless running game, except that each run here as an end. The game isn’t really that hard or challenging, it’s just knowing when the right time to tap on the screen to perform whatever action the situation calls for. There are tons of levels to play and tons more characters to unlock, however after a while, the game starts to feel a bit repetitive so it’s best to play a few levels at a time in my opinion instead of trying to crank out a whole bunch of them in one sitting. What is good about the game is that because of its simple one touch controls, even children will be able to jump right in an enjoy Diversion HD.

Diversion HD is available now in the App Store for $1.99. It is compatible with iPad. Requires iOS 3.2 or later.
