It can be said that there really aren’t that many console quality platform games on mobile devices, so when one does come around, you take notice. Flyhunter Origins for example is developed by Steelwool Games, a dev comprised of former Pixar veterans. With those credentials, this has to be a top notch console level game, right? Flyhunter Origins stars Zak, an alien spaceship janitor aboard a ship full of real Flyhunters. One day Zak accidentally jettisons his cryo sleeping Flyhunters and a cargo of dangerous insects from their ship down to Earth. Zak is then thrust into a position of heroism where he must not only rescue the Flyhunter crew, but also recover the cargo of super insects that were lost.
Flyhunter Origins plays exactly like any platformer you would find on any other gaming console. You go from point A to point P while collecting objects around the world and reaching your objective. You’ll be doing a lot of jumping like any good platformer as well as figuring out environmental puzzles. All this works rather well even with the virtual control pad which is one thing I usually hate about games on touch devices. The gameplay is very fluid and is a good example of how touch based console level platforming should be done on a mobile device.
Because this game was being developed by ex-Pixar veterans, I had high hopes for the game in the graphics department. For starters, the character designs are pretty good and they’ve certainly made some interesting new characters. Whether or not these are characters you’ll care about in the future, only you can decide that. Back to the graphics, the in-game graphics are also very good as are the level designs. One of the main things you’ll probably be impressed with though are the animations during the cut scenes and the in-game animations. They are very well done and far better than most you’ll see on mobile.
Despite how good the presentation is, is the game any good though? Yes. It’s a fun platformer that works well with touch controls. However, if touch controls aren’t your thing, Flyhunter Origins will also be coming out on PS Vita soon. Flyhunter Origins has many elements that platforming fans will enjoy so if you’re a fan of the genre, I’d definitely check it out.

Meet Zak – a bumbling alien spaceship Janitor and wannabe Flyhunter. Zak is a “Zursk”- one of three alien species from Burgarol 3. He works on board the Flyhunter Crew’s legendary spaceship; ‘The Frog’ but deep down he longs for an exciting adventure of his own.
Somewhere in Earth’s orbit while the heroic Flyhunters are deep in cryo sleep, The Frog’s cargo of super-important insects from the latest hunt is mysteriously jettisoned into Space, crash-landing back on planet Earth. It seems that clumsy Janitor Zak is the only one around to save the day.
Can this accidental hero swap his tiny mop for an epic Fly Swatter and take on the role of daring Flyhunter? It’s a good thing Zak is used to cleaning up – because he is in a huge mess! Help this little dude complete his mission before “The Investors” find out their expensive bugs are missing!
