Rockspace AC2100 Tri-band Mesh WiFi System Will Obliterate Any Dead Zones You May Have | Review

Rockspace AC1200 Mesh WiFi

WiFi in your home is the best, isn’t it? You get to use all your devices wirelessly and no longer need to be tethered to a desk just to use the Internet. Howeer, there are limitations to WiFi sometimes and most of it has to do with either range or some kind of WiFi inhibiting material or design in your home. This causes dead zones in your home, which can be incredibly annoying and inconvenient. Well, dead zones are a thing of the past now if you install a mesh WiFi system in your home such as the Rockspace AC2100 Tri-band Mesh WiFi System. This comes in a triple pack that can cover up to 6,000 sq. Ft of area which is enough to cover most homes entirely.

DESIGN & SPECS

You never really think about how good network equipment looks because in all honesty, I just care that they work. Luckily, the Rockspace units look pretty good. They’re just little black cubes with some grey felt mesh on the top. There’s a cut line near the bottom just to break up the solid square sides a little and the bottom have little feet to raise it up so there’s enough room to plug in the power cable and any possible Ethernet cables you might use.

At the top on each corner is a little LED status light that lets you know if everything is working properly or not and that’s basically it. It’s not fancy, it’s very minimal, and they’re actually really easy to hide if need be. The footprint on these is very small so you can place them almost anywhere with minimal effort.

Underneath each cube, you’ll find the hidden power port and three LAN ports as well as the connection information for each cube. You won’t need to use the Ethernet ports for the most part unless it’s the first cube attached to your modem, but Ill get more into that in a bit.

While you probably won’t get these speeds, these are supposed to deliver up to 2,100 Mbps. It does this by utilizing 5Ghz powerful WLAN full-featured front-end module and beamforming technology. You’re also able to connect over 100 devices, though I have no means of testing such a claim. The advanced tri-band mesh Wi-Fi network system can effectively reduce weak signal by utilising the Wi-Fi signal among the 3 units of the mesh router with a dedicated band. All 3 units can be regarded as independent routers and can be connected with different modems to create 3 separate Wi-Fi signals without the need to distinguish the main router from the 2 satellites.

INSTALLATION IS A BREEZE

Installing the Rockspace AC2100 Tri-band Mesh WiFi System took me literally 5-minutes to complete. That’s how easy it was set this up. First you’ll need to download the RS WiFi app from your respective app stores. You’ll need this app to run setup on the first cube.

The first cube you use will need to be plugged into power and then plugged directly into your Internet modem or router using the WAN/LAN port. From here, the app will ask you to create a new SSID and password. If you are replacing an existing WiFi router, you can probably use the same SSID and password just to make it easy on yourself. If not, then you’ll need to make a new one.

Once that is don’t, you’re basically finished. The second cube you install will be about 10 meters or less from the first cube and the third cube will be about the same distance or less from the third cube. It doesn’t have to be exact, but try to keep within those perimeters. Anyways, these things will automatically connect to each other and the top light on each will turn green if everything goes smoothly. If you’re a little too far, the light will be yellow and if you’re way too far, it’ll be red.

And that’s it.

EXPERIENCE

These things work. I installed the Rockspace units at my parent’s house because their WiFi over there is horrendous. They live in a two story house but the WiFi never reaches the far corners and has trouble passing through walls. However now with the Rockspace Mesh WiFi system, they’re getting steady, fast speeds throughout the whole house now. We’re talking about 500mbps or more where as before, some areas were only getting like 5-10mbps. It was not great. Your connection speeds of course will vary depending on your Internet plan and data speeds.

Even with devices that don’t have WiFi, you can connect to the Rockspace units with an Ethernet cable and it works just as well.

Aside from that, the RS WiFi app is also really easy to use and makes monitoring your network very simple and intuitive. I wouldn’t really suggest messing with any of the settings unless you’re familiar with what they do, though the app is great for setting up a guest network, parental controls and seeing what devices are connected to your network. More than likely, once you have everything set the way you like it, you’ll never really have to open the app again.

FINAL THOUGHT

I’ve used many different types of solutions to get whole-home Internet. I’ve tried WiFi extenders, PowerPlug adapters, WiFi Bridges, etc, but none of them have really gotten the results that I’ve gotten with this Rockspace AC2100 Tri-band Mesh WiFi System. Aside from the WiFi Bridge, all the other methods didn’t produce the consistent speeds that the Mesh WiFi did nor were they as versatile. There was always some type of limitation to them. With the Rockspace units, not so much. This does everything I want it to do and more. It fixed all the dead spots at my parent’s house, it improved the speed of their WiFi, and installation took very little time.

So with that said, I’m definitely a fan now of Mesh WiFi and especially of the Rockspace AC2100 Tri-band Mesh WiFi System. I would recommend this to anyone who suffers the same type of problems and just wants something that is reliable, fast, and simple.
